Coffee beans are roasted coffee beans for grinding and drinking, generally divided into light, medium, dark and extra dark roasts. The processing method of coffee also affects the flavor, acidity and body of coffee. There are three main processing methods: washing method, semi-washing method and natural drying method, which are adopted according to factors such as different regions, climates, and types of coffee beans. Different processing methods, the taste of coffee beans processed by different methods will also show different flavors. We can’t drink coffee without coffee equipment. Let’s talk about it.
1. Drip Coffee
The brewing method invented by the Germans is different from the industrially produced coffee. That is, after grinding the coffee, put it in a funnel with a layer of filter paper, pour hot water on it, the water temperature is between 80 ° C and 85 ° C, after the first injection of hot water, steam for 20 seconds, and then circle around. The way to inject hot water, the coffee will flow out from the bottom.
Grinding degree: The coffee has a fine grain like sugar
Water-to-powder ratio: 1:15-18.18 (depending on personal taste, soy products, and usage)
2. Syphon
Commonly known as “plugging pot” or “siphon type”, it is a simple and easy-to-use coffee brewing method, and it is also one of the most popular coffee brewing methods in coffee shops. Although the siphon pot has the alias of “plugging pot”, it has nothing to do with the siphon principle. Instead, it uses water to heat and generate water vapor, which creates pressure and pushes the hot water from the lower sphere to the upper pot. After the lower pot is cooled, the upper pot is turned the water is sucked back.
Grinding degree: slightly coarser than powder, close to superfine sugar.
3. Moka Pot
The moka pot is a tool for extracting the base of espresso coffee. Because of the convenience of making coffee, it became popular in Italian households and later developed into an Italian national product and even the world. The basic principle uses pressurized hot water to quickly extract coffee liquid through coffee grounds.
The moka pot is divided into upper, middle and lower parts. The water is boiled in the lower part to generate steam pressure, the boiling water rises, and the coffee liquid is extracted through the powder tank containing coffee powder, and then continues to be pushed through the conduit to the upper pot to aggregate and flow out. The coffee made by the moka pot is an espresso-style extraction that restores the strength and flavor of the original Italian coffee, Espresso.
4. Royal Belgian Coffee Pot
The Belgian pot, which combines the characteristics of a siphon coffee pot and a moka pot, is full of see-saw fun during the performance. It combines several natural forces: fire, steam, pressure, gravity, which make the operation of the Royal Belgian coffee maker feel more visible.
5. French Press
French press for short, is a coffee pot with the function of a tea maker at the same time. A simple brewing device composed of a heat-resistant glass bottle and a metal filter with a pressure rod originated in France around 1850. It began to be used more for brewing black tea, also known as a tea maker.
Principle: In the way of soaking, the essence of coffee is released through the brewing of water and coffee powder in full contact with the soaking.
Disadvantages: The fine powder cannot be completely filtered by the filter, and there will be some fine powder at the bottom, which makes people feel that the coffee is not clear enough. The time needs to be well controlled. Long-term soaking will cause excessive extraction, and bitterness, astringency, and miscellaneous flavors will emerge. This kind of coffee tastes slightly worse. French presses are more difficult to clean, especially the filter. If the filter is not cleaned properly, it will affect the taste of the next coffee.
6. Electric Coffee Machine
Generally, American coffee drip machines and Italian espresso machines are commonly found in coffee shops on the market.
The American drip coffee maker is about the same price as a siphon pot, suitable for medium or dark roasted coffee, with a slightly finer grind and a slightly bitter taste. It uses electricity to boil water and then steep it, which is the easiest black coffee, but because it is made with boiling water, the taste is slightly inferior.
Coffee brewed with an espresso machine is stronger, warmer, and has a heavier taste than coffee brewed with an American drip machine. The espresso maker is a machine that uses high pressure and high temperature to allow steam to quickly pass through the coffee powder to extract coffee. The best temperature for brewing coffee is between 90 and 98 degrees Celsius. The temperature control of the espresso machine is quite good. Home espresso machines often have a milk froth mouth to make cappuccinos; in addition, they often have the function of warming the cup.
